Natasha Hirst
Natasha’s career as a freelance professional photographer began in 2010, after a decade working in policy and campaigns. As a disability and trade union activist, Natasha wanted to use the power of photography to tell the stories of communities whose lives are often overlooked.
Coming into photography without training or knowing anything about the industry made for a challenging journey at first but Natasha’s coverage of Welsh election campaigns defined her style and built her confidence.
Drawing on her lived experience and guided by her love of storytelling she has been privileged to work on with a wide range of communities and organisations, aiming to tackle social justice and equalities issues. She documented the work of the disabled people’s delegation in Geneva in 2017 as they gave evidence to a UN Committee about the human rights violations against disabled people in the UK. Her work celebrating the lives of people with learning disabilities in Wales was exhibited in the Senedd in 2023.
Natasha is a rep on the Photographers’ Council of the National Union of Journalists and a trustee for Disability Arts Cymru.
CYMRAEG
Dechreuodd gyrfa Natasha fel ffotograffydd proffesiynol llawrydd yn 2010, ar ôl degawd yn gweithio ym maes polisi ac ymgyrchoedd. Fel actifydd anabledd ac undeb llafur, roedd Natasha eisiau defnyddio pŵer ffotograffiaeth i adrodd straeon a bywydau y bobl mewn cymunedau sy'n cael eu hanwybyddu'n aml. Doedd gan Natasha ddim hyfforddiant nac ymwybyddiaeth am y dywidiant ffotograffiaeth pan ddechreuodd hi, ond datblygodd ei harddull a'i hyder wrth ddogfennu etholiadau Cymru. Gan dynnu ar ei phrofiad bywyd a'i chariad at adrodd straeon, mae Natasha wedi cael y fraint o weithio gydag ystod eang o gymunedau a sefydliadau, gan anelu at fynd i'r afael â materion cyfiawnder cymdeithasol a chydraddoldeb. Dogfennodd waith y ddirprwyaeth o bobl anabl yn Geneva yn 2017 wrth iddynt roi tystiolaeth i Bwyllgor y Cenhedloedd Unedig am y troseddau hawliau dynol yn erbyn pobl anabl yn y DU. Cafodd ei gwaith sy'n dathlu bywydau pobl ag anableddau dysgu yng Nghymru ei arddangos yn y Senedd yn 2023. Mae Natasha yn gynrychiolydd Cyngor Ffotograffwyr Undeb Cenedlaethol y Newyddiadurwyr ac yn ymddiriedolwr i Celfyddydau Anabledd Cymru.
Kristina Banholzer
Kristina started her photographic journey in India back when she was 16 years old. When arriving home with a new found love for taking pictures she wanted to do nothing more than continue to document places further afield. After graduating in Documentary Photography at Newport, South Wales, she had a crisis in confidence and neglected her camera for five years. Who would want to hire a young photographer from a small town in North Wales? Fortunately, she received an email in regards to a project in India teaching photography to orphans in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Kristina regained her confidence during her time in India, ten years exactly after her first inspirational trip. After returning she started her freelancing career, working in various sectors. Her passion lies in putting a ‘documentary spin’ on artistic theatre, as well as applying the same concept to her commercial and television work. She has worked with Wales’ largest theatre companies, as well as Sky, BBC and S4C creating some of Wales’ most iconic images in the creative sector.
She teaches photography to school students and vulnerable young people in youth hostels, giving them confidence and teaching them core photographic skills that can be applied in professional and personal aspects of life.
As a photographer and individual, Kristina prides herself on her ability to connect with people - something she believes should be at the forefront of any photographic project.
CYMRAEG
Dechreuodd Kristina ar ei thaith ffotograffiaeth yn India pan oedd hi'n 16 oed. Pan cyrrhaeddod adref lawn angerdd at dynnu lluniau, nid oedd am wneud dim mwy na pharhau i ddogfennu lleoedd ymhellach i ffwrdd. Ar ôl graddio mewn Ffotograffiaeth Ddogfennol yng Nghasnewydd, De Cymru, collodd ei hyder ac ni choddod ei chamera am bum mlynedd. Pwy fyddai eisiau cyflogi ffotograffydd ifanc o dref fach yng Ngogledd Cymru? Yn ffodus, derbyniodd e-bost mewn perthynas â phrosiect yn India yn dysgu ffotograffiaeth i blant amddifad yn Udaipur, Rajasthan. Adenillodd Kristina ei hyder yn ystod ei hamser yn India, ddeng mlynedd yn union ar ôl ei thaith ysbrydoledig gyntaf. Ar ôl dychwelyd dechreuodd ei gyrfa lawrydd, gan weithio mewn amryw o sectorau. Mae ei gwaith yn nodweddedig am roi spin dogfennol ar waith theatr artistig, ynghyd â defnyddio’r un cysyniad yn ei gwaith masnachol a theledu. Mae hi wedi gweithio gyda chwmnïau theatr mwyaf Cymru, yn ogystal â chwmniau teledu Sky, BBC a S4C gan greu rhai o ddelweddau mwyaf eiconig Cymru yn y sector creadigol.
Mae hi'n dysgu ffotograffiaeth i fyfyrwyr ysgol a phobl ifanc bregus mewn hosteli ieuenctid, gan roi hyder iddynt ac addysgu sgiliau ffotograffiaeth craidd iddynt allu defnyddio mewn agweddau proffesiynol a phersonol o’i bywydau.
Fel ffotograffydd ac unigolyn, mae Kristina yn ymfalchïo yn ei gallu i gysylltu â phobl - rhywbeth y mae hi'n credu sy’n hanfodol mewn unrhyw brosiect ffotograffiaeth.
